Season guide

When to Visit Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is a year-round destination in theory, but the mountains dictate the calendar. Here's what each season means for adventure travel.

Peak Season

June – September

All 27 tours available. Snow-free passes, full yurt-camp season, best weather for high-altitude trekking. Ala-Kul, Son-Kul and Altyn-Arashan are at their most accessible. Book early — July and August fill up fast.

  • All trekking routes open
  • Horse riding in full swing
  • Nomadic jailoo (summer pasture) life active
  • Day temperatures 15–25°C at altitude

Shoulder Season

April–May & October

Road trips and lower-altitude horse riding are excellent. High passes may still have snow in April–May. Autumn colours in October are outstanding. Crowds minimal, prices lower.

  • Most road-trip routes open
  • Horse riding from May
  • Day hike (T05) excellent
  • Variable weather — layers essential

Off Season

November – March

Mountain passes closed by snow. Bishkek and Issyk-Kul city visits are possible. Suitable for cultural tours or city stays only — we do not run mountain or horse-riding tours in winter.

  • Bishkek cultural visit: possible
  • Issyk-Kul south shore: limited road access
  • Mountain tours: closed
