Getting to Kyrgyzstan

Citizens of 60+ countries including all EU nations, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, and most Southeast Asian countries can enter Kyrgyzstan visa-free for 30–60 days. Check the full list on the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry website.

Manas International Airport in Bishkek (airport code: FRU) is the main international gateway. Direct or one-stop flights from most European and Asian hubs.

From Europe: Turkish Airlines via Istanbul, Pegasus, FlyDubai via Dubai, Air Astana via Almaty. From USA: usually one stop in Istanbul, Dubai or Almaty. From Southeast Asia: AirAsia via Kuala Lumpur, or via Almaty.

Tour Logistics

A private 4WD vehicle (UAZ minibus or Land Cruiser) is essential for most tours — road conditions outside Bishkek range from rough to extreme. Our tours include all ground transportation.

All our tours are available for solo travellers and pairs. For fixed-departure group tours, we’ll match you with other travellers of compatible travel style and experience level.

Kyrgyzstan is generally very safe for tourists. Violent crime against visitors is extremely rare. Take standard travel precautions in cities. Rural areas are particularly safe and welcoming.

Physical Requirements

It varies by tour. Our Day Hikes (T05) require minimal fitness. 3–4 day treks (T01, T03) need moderate fitness. Expedition-level treks (T04, T08) require serious mountain experience and fitness. Each tour page shows difficulty level clearly.

Absolutely. All our horse riding tours include riding instruction for beginners. Kyrgyz horses are hardy and calm. We match horse temperament to rider experience level.

Some tours reach 3,500–3,900m. Altitude sickness is possible. We recommend acclimatising with a day hike before major treks. Our guides are trained to identify and respond to altitude sickness.

Booking & Payments

Submit an inquiry via the form on any tour page (or our contact page). We’ll reply within 24 hours with pricing, availability, and itinerary details. No payment required at inquiry stage.

Yes — all our tours can be customised for private groups. We also design bespoke itineraries combining multiple destinations and activity types. Use the inquiry form and describe what you’re looking for.

Full refund if cancelled 30+ days before departure. 50% refund 15–29 days. No refund under 14 days (as guides, permits and logistics are already booked). We strongly recommend travel insurance.

Packing & Gear

Layers are essential — mountain weather changes fast. Waterproof jacket, warm mid-layer, sturdy trekking boots, trekking poles (optional), UV sunscreen, sun hat, quality sleeping bag (for camping tours). Full packing list provided after booking.

Travel insurance is strongly recommended for all tours and mandatory for expedition-level routes (T04, T08). Ensure your policy covers high-altitude trekking and emergency helicopter evacuation.

Culture & Etiquette

Remove shoes before entering yurts. Accept offered food and drink — refusing hospitality is considered impolite. Kumiss (fermented mare’s milk) is the traditional drink; at least a small sip is expected. Photography of people: always ask first.

Kyrgyz and Russian are the official languages. English is widely spoken among guides and tourism workers but not generally in rural areas. Our guides translate throughout.

Kyrgyz cuisine: laghman (noodle soup), besh barmak (meat and noodles), samsa (pastries), bread, dairy products. All tours include meals — vegetarian options available on request. Food is plentiful and fresh.

June to September is peak season — mountain passes are clear, yurt camps are open, and the plateau wildflowers are at their peak. May and October offer fewer crowds and lower prices. Winter is for backcountry skiing only.
