Sary-Chelek Reserve Horse & Nature Tour

RARE
Duration 6 days
Difficulty Moderate
Max Altitude 1,873 m
Season June – Sep
Group Size 2–8
Starts Jalal-Abad

Overview

Sary-Chelek on horseback is a completely different experience to trekking the same reserve. Moving through the ancient walnut forest at riding pace — stopping for the guide to point out rare bird species, following paths that walkers never take — reveals a side of the reserve that is otherwise inaccessible.

The route runs from the Arslanbob walnut forest into the protected zone, following ancient bridle paths past hidden lakes and through old-growth forest to arrive at Sary-Chelek Lake. A slow day at the lake gives you time to swim, photograph, and simply sit with one of the most beautiful places in western Kyrgyzstan.
