Overview

The Ak-Suu Transverse is one of the most complete and demanding mountain routes in Central Asia — a multi-day wilderness traverse through the Terskey Ala-Too range that sees almost no other trekkers. This is not a trail; it is a route through genuinely remote territory.

Over nine days you cross multiple high passes above 3,700m, traverse untouched river valleys, sleep under stars at altitude with no phone signal, and experience the mountains in a way that most routes simply cannot offer. The scale and silence of the landscape is extraordinary.

This trek is for experienced mountain trekkers only. Mandatory travel insurance with helicopter evacuation cover is required. Our guide team holds wilderness first aid certification and carries emergency satellite communication equipment throughout.

Itinerary

Drive 2.5h to remote Jyrgalan. Trek to first wilderness camp at 2,600m through untouched valley.

Demanding 7h crossing. No other trekkers. Wild camping in a silent valley.

Follow ancient nomad paths through wilderness. River crossing. Wild camp.

Above the treeline. 360° mountain panorama. No phone signal. Stars so dense they look solid.

The crux of the traverse. Spectacular views across two mountain ranges. Long descent.

Descend to civilisation. Natural hot springs bath — well earned. Yurt overnight.

Morning walk out. Transfer to Karakol. Rest day or onward travel.
