Ala Archa Day Hike from Bishkek

STANDARD
Duration 1 day
Difficulty Easy
Max Altitude 2,900 m
Season Apr – Nov
Group Size 2–10
Starts Bishkek

Overview

Ala Archa National Park sits just 40km south of Bishkek — a gorge that rises sharply from the capital's suburbs into serious mountain terrain. The day hike to the Ak-Sai glacier viewpoint at 2,900m is the most accessible mountain experience in Kyrgyzstan, and an ideal first day in the country.

The route follows the Ak-Sai river through pine and spruce forest before opening onto alpine meadows with views of the surrounding peaks. The glacier viewpoint rewards the 4–5 hour round trip with panoramas of the northern Tian Shan range.

This tour is suitable for anyone in reasonable health. No technical experience or special equipment required — sturdy walking shoes and warm layers are sufficient. We depart Bishkek at 7:00am and return by early evening.

Itinerary

Early pickup from Bishkek (7:00am). 45-min drive to Ala Archa National Park. 4–5h hike to Ak-Sai glacier viewpoint. Picnic lunch on the mountain. Descend and return to Bishkek by 6pm.
